Stories of the North - Season 3 Poster

 Kyle Burgess, Producer:

“I want to give people opportunities that didn’t exist when I first entered the industry. As a first-time television producer myself I was very nervous in our first season. It felt like I was learning lessons by the minute at some points. You could feel that nervous excitement the first day on set, but it created this amazing energy where we all supported each other to make something we are all incredibly proud of.”

 Jennifer Dawn Bishop, Director:

A show like this can hold a lot of importance in many ways, it’s something I’m proud of taking part in, this was a first opportunity to really find myself in this other creative world. I didn’t have much experience in film directing but, the producers reached out and gave me a shot! What made this more of a special moment/memory, is the amazing, very welcoming environment where I had the chance to foster those skills while learning something new every episode, it’s always full of language and culture that is warming to my heart.”

Claire Walker, Actor (Sekwan):

“When I get to the studio, I feel like I’m a part of something bigger. It’s important to remember our culture, our language and our people.”

 Mya Hoskins-Fiddler, Actor (Nitanis):

When I was really young I always wanted to be a part of a movie or a tv show, so when I got told I would be in this show I was super super excited. I love being a part of Stories Of The North and playing the role of Nitanis because it’s so much fun to learn new words and teachings and they work so so so hard to create a fun creative open environment even when it takes awhile to learn the new words which can be tricky at times. A huge thank you to all cast and crew and parents for making this happen as well as an unforgettable experience!

 Bo Shingoose, Director

As an Indigenous creative working in the tv & film industry in SK – I really love the environment and creative space that the team at Stories of the North not only curates but continues to uphold season after season. They have created an atmosphere where you feel comfortable and encouraged into taking the next step in your career or even just testing out a position on set that you didn’t have the opportunity to try before. They have assembled the type of individuals where you know without having to ask – that every question is a good question! Having access to a space that respects and understands that indigenous stories are meant to be shared by indigenous people, gives me hope that this environment is capable of existing in multiple spaces.
